THE government has approved RM500 million for flood mitigation projects, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ordering faster implementation in areas hit by repeated flooding.
Anwar said projects with contracts already awarded must proceed without delay, following three rounds of flooding in affected areas.
“The projects must continue and must not be mixed up with other matters. Once a contract has been awarded, I want the work to be expedited,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after visiting flood victims at the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Siantan, Kampung Melayu Subang, today.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was also present.
Anwar said the RM500 million approved formed part of a total RM700 million allocation for flood mitigation works.
Planned measures include widening rivers and constructing additional retention ponds to reduce the risk of recurring floods.
He said Amirudin would receive concrete updates on the projects at the state executive council meeting on Friday, after which he would provide a report to the Prime Minister.
On the possibility of one-off assistance for victims whose homes had suffered severe damage, Anwar said the matter would be assessed before aid was coordinated between the Federal and Selangor governments.
He said additional assistance would be considered on a case-by-case basis, according to the circumstances and needs of those affected.
Anwar had earlier spent about 45 minutes meeting victims from eight families housed at the relief centre. - November 3, 2026
