A TOTAL of 1,000 members of the Indian community in Indera Mahkota have received RM200 shopping vouchers each under an initiative to ensure financially disadvantaged families can celebrate Deepavali without being weighed down by festive expenses.
The assistance, distributed through the Cahaya Deepavali MADANI Indera Mahkota programme at Ten Ten supermarket in Bukit Ubi in Kuantan, was targeted particularly at those in need, including schoolchildren from B40 households.
The vouchers are intended to help recipients purchase essential items for the festival, which will be celebrated on Nov 8.
In a post on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Facebook page today, he said the contribution, although modest, was aimed at bringing joy to families facing financial difficulties and allowing children to experience the festivities alongside their loved ones.
The programme was organised with the cooperation of the Prime Minister's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU JPM) and Ten Ten supermarket management.
Batu MP Prabakaran A/L Parameswaran also attended the event to meet the recipients.
The organiser said the initiative reflected the Malaysia MADANI principle that the welfare and well-being of all communities should remain a priority, regardless of race, religion or culture.
