RAMKARPAL Singh is now among Penang DAP leaders who will be vying for a seat in the party’s central committee polls next month.

Apart from Ramkarpal, former Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto will also be joining the race.

Both are leaders of former prominent DAP leaders – Ramkarpal, the Bukit Gelugor MP is the son of the late Datuk Seri Karpal Singh Deo, while Kasthuri is the daughter of another DAP stalwart, the late P. Patto.

They will now join Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow who also recently announced his candidacy.

Ramkarpal is also now the Penang DAP deputy chairman while Kasthuri was appointed to the DAP international bureau, holding the post of assistant international secretary.

It remains to be seen if the present incumbents - Lim Guan Eng the present DAP chairman, his sister Lim Hui Ying and Penang Hindu Endowment Board chairman RSN Rayer, both committee members would also contest.

There are also speculations that Penang Port Commission chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin may be prompted to contest by certain quarters.

Newly Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong, has also yet to confirm if he would be contesting in the CEC elections.

He is now the DAP organising secretary.

In the present CEC line up, there are five Penang - based DAP leaders.

The coming CEC elections would be the ‘most watched’ in view of the intense jostling for positions in the 30 - member line up, where 30% are constitutionally reserved for women. - February 25, 2025.
