THE Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) have launched the Strategic Co-investment Fund (CoSIF) under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).
The initiative aims to foster the growth of Malaysia’s economy by encouraging local companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to actively participate.
In his remarks at the official CoSIF launch event, the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, announced that the government has allocated RM131.5 million to stimulate participation from Malaysian companies in economic expansion.
He stressed the government's commitment to supporting SMEs as a key driver of national growth.
"The RM131.5 million allocation marks the starting point, and we will also be looking for funds from the private sector to match this amount," said Tengku Zafrul.
"The main goal is to encourage Malaysian companies, especially SMEs, to engage in our economic growth, with a particular focus on sectors outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan."
The fund will be managed by the SC and distributed through equity crowdfunding (ECF) and peer-to-peer (P2P) financing platforms.
These efforts are designed to provide critical financial support for SMEs and mid-tier companies (MTCs) in Malaysia, especially those involved in emerging industries.
CoSIF will focus on businesses within 21 sectors identified under NIMP 2030, including four key emerging growth sectors: Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), Electric Vehicles (EV), Renewable Energy (RE), and Advanced Materials.
Tengku Zafrul added the initiative would not only diversify financing options but also reflect the government’s commitment to inclusivity by facilitating growth across industries.
"This fund will contribute to the objectives of NIMP 2030 and put Malaysia on the right path to becoming a leading hub for manufacturing and services in the region," he added.
