THE Sarawak government will liaise with Australia to explore cooperation in tapping the state's vast potentials in energy and mining projects.

Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg held a meeting with Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia Danielle Heinecke on these projects yesterday at his office, according to the State Public Communications Unit.

"Australia sees vast potentials in helping Sarawak tap its energy and mining resources.

"There are potential Australian investors keen to come to Sarawak.

"They want to explore the possible cooperation for joint projects with this state," the Unit quoted Heinecke as saying at the meeting.

Sarawak is going big on its hydrogen power plans.

The state has also discovered vast resources of precious metals and minerals.

Last year, the state government announced that it will carry out a complete geological mapping of Sarawak to search for more precious minerals - after having discovered an estimated RM 1.25 trillion worth of gold, rare earth and other precious metals in 32 percent of land that was mapped.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said that he had informed Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof about the latest state decision.

"I have informed Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah to seek funds from Putrajaya.

"We in the state will carry out complete geological mapping of Sarawak that will cover the whole state.

"This matter was discussed during the National Minerals Council meeting chaired by Deputy PM Fadillah," Tengah said in a press statement. – March 4, 2025
