THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has questioned 32 individuals as part of its ongoing investigation into former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The money laundering inquiry has uncovered more than RM170 million in various currencies and gold stored in several safehouses.
A source, speaking anonymously to the New Straits Times, revealed that an additional 23 individuals are set to be summoned for their statements. Furthermore, four individuals who were previously questioned have been called back for further inquiries.
The MACC has also requested bank records from several financial institutions and is currently awaiting their arrival.
Initially, the agency planned to take Ismail Sabri's statement for a second time on March 5, but he fell ill.
His appointment was rescheduled to March 7, yet he provided another medical certificate, this time extending his sick leave until March 12.
In light of these delays, the MACC interviewed Ismail Sabri's doctor to assess the seriousness of his health issues and to clarify the nature of his condition.
On March 1, he had already been questioned for five hours at the MACC headquarters regarding the substantial funds spent on promotional and publicity activities during his tenure from 2021 to 2022.
Following this, he was hospitalized due to high blood pressure after reportedly collapsing at home.
Previously, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that Ismail Sabri is a suspect in the investigation and will be required to provide details about the assets he declared in February. – March 10, 2025
