BARISAN Nasional (BN) parties in Tapah is set to employ a fresh approach in its campaign efforts for the upcoming Ayer Kuning state by-election, scheduled for April.

Tapah BN vice-chairman and MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said the local campaign model will be utilised to ensure a victory for the coalition’s chosen candidate.

"The machinery at the division level understands the needs and problems of Tapah, and this unique approach has successfully enabled BN to have elected representatives from various races here," he said during a press conference on Thursday.

Saravanan, who also serves as the Tapah Member of Parliament, expressed confidence that BN would retain the Ayer Kuning state seat in the by-election.

The Election Commission has announced the official polling day for the Ayer Kuning state by-election will be April 26. Nomination day is set for April 12, while early voting will take place on April 22.

The by-election was necessitated by the sudden death of the previous Ayer Kuning state assemblyman, Ishsam Shahruddin, who passed away from a heart attack on February 22, following his participation in the 4-Corner Football Championship in Penang.

Ishsam had represented the state seat since his victory in the November 2022 General Election, where he won with a majority of 2,213 votes in a five-cornered contest. - March 14, 2025
