Guan Eng denies speculation of withdrawing from DAP CEC election
The claims are "False and baseless,” says Lim

DEMOCRATIC Action Party (DAP) National Chairman Lim Guan Eng has denied speculations that he plans to withdraw from the upcoming Central Executive Committee (CEC) election set to take place tomorrow.

In a Facebook post today, Guan Eng dismissed media reports suggesting his withdrawal, calling them "false and baseless."

"I will never withdraw from the CEC election. My future will be determined by DAP members," he stated.

His comments came in response to Chinese-language media reports quoting sources that claimed he might announce his withdrawal during the party’s national convention tomorrow, which will also include the CEC election.

Some reports shared in his Facebook post claimed that Guan Eng had already decided to step down following a meeting with party leaders yesterday.

The Bagan Member of Parliament expressed his gratitude to his supporters, encouraging them to attend the party congress.

"Thank you to my comrades for your concern. See you at the party congress!" he added.

Earlier, media reports suggested that there had been efforts or movements within the party to remove Guan Eng from his leadership role.

Additionally, it was reported that both Guan Eng and fellow CEC member RSN Rayer were urged to step aside from the upcoming party elections to make way for new leadership, with the aim of preserving the party's image and values. – March 15, 2025
