A LOCAL man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a jewellery store within a shopping mall in Kota Damansara, which occurred at approximately 10:15pm last night.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said the suspect was apprehended by the Selangor Police contingent and the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) in the vicinity of Bukit Beruntung, Hulu Selangor.

He added that the arrest led to the recovery of several pieces of jewellery that had been stolen.

“The arrest and the stolen items have been brought to the Petaling Jaya IPD for further investigation under Section 4 of the Firearms (Heavier Penalties) Act 1971, as the robbery involved the use of a firearm,” he said in a statement issued today.

Hussein also urged members of the public who may have any information regarding the case to come forward, either by visiting the nearest police station or by contacting Investigating Officer ASP Farokh Faisal Ahmad at 017-7762991.

The police’s Petaling Jaya District Control Centre (DCC) had received a tip-off from a member of the public regarding the armed robbery at the jewellery shop inside a shopping mall in Kota Damansara at 4:56pm yesterday.

“The suspect, believed to be a local male, was armed with a firearm, suspected to be a pistol, during the robbery,” Hussein explained.

“The thief managed to steal seven trays of jewellery from the display case before fleeing the scene in a car waiting outside the mall. The estimated value of the stolen items is around RM2 million.”

Investigations are ongoing. – March 23, 2025
