LEFT with four children to care for, Kak Khalijah’s only wish for Hari Raya Aidilfitri is to bring a little joy into their lives.
During a recent visit to the Sri Johor PPR flats in Kuala Lumpur, Nurul Izzah Anwar said she was moved by the plight of this mother who at times hardly even had enough to meet the family’s daily expenses.
“I understand that feeling. The feeling of a mother who thinks every day about how to ensure her children have enough to eat, enough to wear.
“The feeling of a mother who tries her best to smile in front of her children even though her heart is full of worry,” said Izzah.
Izzah then took some time off and invited Kak Khalijah and nine of her single mother friends to go shopping with her.

“I asked the team to contact the van to take all of them to buy the Eid necessities.
“Some bought food items, while others immediately bought Eid clothes.
“Today, they can choose what they need themselves, without having to worry about how to get to the store or how to shop,” she wrote in her Facebook.
Izzah said part of the contribution for them came from the sale of bawal scarves from her collaboration with FiziWoo.
“Today, I saw their cheerful faces, and the children were happy too.
“Truly, the joy is not in the price of the items bought, but in the feeling of being loved and appreciated,” she said.

"Thank you, I never expected someone would be willing to help us like this," said one of the single mothers while wiping away her tears.
Izzah said she hugged each one of them tightly.
“I said ... don't worry, we are all family. When in trouble, we help each other. When we are happy, we share. God willing,”. – March 24, 2025
