THE Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, has confirmed the arrest of a 57-year-old man, identified as Prem Esaan, who was detained in Taman Johor Jaya, Johor Bahru, at 2:30 PM on Tuesday.

"Police have confiscated the suspect's mobile phone for investigation," Tan Sri Razarudin stated.

The case is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Earlier reports revealed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had initiated an investigation into Prem Esaan after he posted content online that was deemed offensive towards Islam. The police received a report on March 20 after the post went viral on social media.

The controversial post included remarks that were derogatory towards Muslims, Allah, and the Qur'an.

Screenshots of the post quickly spread across social media, with some of the comments touching on sensitive racial and religious issues.

Additionally, the individual made provocative statements about the 2018 Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riot.

The police have since launched a thorough investigation into the matter. – March 25, 2025
