ZAMRI Vinoth, a controversial preacher, has been remanded for two days in connection with an investigation into comments made on social media that allegedly insulted religion and disturbed public order.
"The remand order was issued by Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor at the Kangar Court in Perlis at approximately 9:30 am today.
"The suspect will be held for two days, starting today," said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain when contacted by Harian Metro.
The independent preacher arrived at the Kangar Court in handcuffs at around 8:45am this morning, escorted by police officers. He was represented by a legal team of 10 lawyers led by Zuhair Ahmad Zakuan.
The 41-year-old is facing investigation for comments made online regarding the relocation of a Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur.
Razarudin confirmed that the 41-year-old was taken into custody for further investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Reports indicate that the suspect was arrested at around 3:30 pm yesterday in Kangar, Perlis.
According to Razarudin, police received a report from a 62-year-old man who alerted them to a comment on Facebook made by Zamri.
The comment, which was related to a Hindu temple, allegedly contained seditious elements and defamed the Hindu religion.
The complainant noticed that the comment was posted in response to an article regarding discussions over the relocation of a temple.
Following the report, the police detained Zamri and seized a mobile phone to assist with the ongoing investigation. – March 28, 2025
