THE Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) has agreed to provide over 100 temporary housing units for those affected by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, last Tuesday.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that some of the temporary homes will be located in Kota Warisan, Sepang, with additional locations to be revealed later. The homes will be offered through the SMART Sewa Selangor scheme.
“If everything goes well, within one or two weeks, these families will be able to move into the SMART Sewa homes or Airbnb accommodations, with locations to be announced soon,” Amirudin said in a press conference at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) today.
“This will be finalised once we conclude the agreements and present them at the committee meeting, ensuring we can alleviate the pressure on the victims,” he added.
Amirudin, alongside Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo and Selangor’s Exco for Investment, Trade, and Mobility Ng Sze Han, was speaking at a media event held at the PPS in Putra Heights.
The Menteri Besar also stated that more victims would be allowed to return to their homes starting today. He confirmed that the second group of residents—part of the 115 homes deemed safe for occupancy—would be permitted to return once technical authorities had verified the safety of their properties.
“These victims will be allowed back into their homes once the relevant authorities have reconnected utilities to their properties,” Amirudin explained.
The fire, which took place on Tuesday morning at 8:10 AM at a Petronas gas pipeline site on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, affected a total of 1,254 people from 308 families. Of the affected homes, 87 were completely destroyed and uninhabitable, while 148 others sustained damage but can be repaired and lived in after necessary works.
Earlier, Amurudin denied the rumours circulating on social media that of a body of a victim had been found at the site.
He emphasised that the rumours were untrue, and there was no loss of life but investigations are ongoing.
He clarified that only two victims remain in a critical state and are being treated in the Ampang and Kuala Lumpur Hospitals.
In another gesture of support, twenty-five victims of the Putra Heights gas explosion were today handed the keys to new sports utility vehicles (SUVs) from Chery Malaysia for temporary use. This donation is part of a larger commitment by Chery, which has pledged 50 vehicles in total for victims.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari praised the company for its support, noting that the remaining 25 SUVs will be distributed by Monday.
"I would like to thank Chery for fulfilling its promise. In addition, they have provided RM100 in fuel money to those borrowing the cars,” Amirudin said at a press conference held at the Putra Heights Mosque, which has been serving as a relief centre for victims.
Chery Malaysia also made a generous donation of RM50,000 to the mosque’s management to help cover the utility costs for the relief operations.
Amirudin highlighted those 112 victims had applied for temporary use of over 200 vehicles pledged by various organisations. Alongside Chery, other contributors include Carsome (50 cars), Carro (30 cars), GoCar (20 cars), and DRB-Hicom (62 cars).
“The support from all these companies is greatly appreciated, and we are doing everything possible to assist the victims in their recovery and to ease their burdens during this challenging time,” Amirudin added. – April 4, 2025
