HIS MAJESTY Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, made a personal contribution to victims of the devastating gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

His Majesty presented assistance through the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation (Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor) to help those impacted by the tragedy.

A total of 308 households, who have been displaced by the blaze, received financial support of RM1,000 each.

The funds are intended to help alleviate the hardships faced by these families currently taking shelter at a temporary relief centre located at Dewan Serbaguna, Masjid Putra Heights.

During his visit to the relief centre, His Majesty took time to speak with those affected, showing concern for their wellbeing.

The King’s visit was accompanied by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Also present at the centre were Selangor’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

At the time of His Majesty’s visit, 382 victims from 98 families were still sheltering at the centre.

The fire, which broke out at around 8:10 am on Tuesday, April 1, at the Petronas gas pipeline, saw flames reaching over 30 metres high, with temperatures soaring to 1,000 degrees Celsius.

Firefighters spent nearly eight hours battling the blaze before it was finally brought under control.

In the aftermath of the disaster, 87 homes have been declared a “total loss,” while 148 others, which were damaged but not destroyed, have been deemed habitable after repairs.

Sultan Ibrahim took to his official Facebook page to express his gratitude to the government departments, agencies, and non-governmental organisations that have worked tirelessly to assist the victims.
