KUALA LUMPUR – The flood situation in the east coast has worsened, with more than 9,000 people from some 3,000 families evacuated to relief centres as at 8am today.
In Terengganu, the number of victims increased to 7,780 people from 1,822 families as at 8am, up from 7,403 people from 1,786 families at 4pm yesterday.
Fifty-three relief centres have been opened in four districts, namely Kemaman (31), Dungun (18), Hulu Terengganu (3) and Setiu (1).
In Kelantan, the number of flood evacuees in three districts rose to 1,382 people as at 8am from 1,214 people yesterday afternoon.
Pasir Mas is the worst-hit district, with 1,085 people from 410 families evacuated to 14 relief centres.
In Tanah Merah, 143 victims from 39 families are being housed at five relief centres, while in Kuala Krai, there are 153 flood victims from 43 families at five relief centres.
In Pahang, a total of 38 evacuees from six families are seeking shelter at two relief centres, at the Sg Ular community hall in Kuantan (25 people from six families) and SK Teh in Jerantut (13 people from two families). – Bernama, December 21, 2020
