A SOLDIER, whose video went viral for allegedly punching a female driver in Senawang last month, has pleaded not guilty to the charge when brought before the Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Abdul Hafiz Abu Bakar, 35, appeared before Magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali, where the charge was read out to him.
The defendant faces a charge of intentionally striking a 28-year-old woman on the head with his hand, Sinar Harian reported today.
The incident occurred on March 29, 2025, around 10:20 p.m. at Taman Satria in Senawang.
The offence is punishable under Section 323 of the Penal Code, with a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal proposed a bail of RM2,000 with one surety.
Chrysandy Lai, a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), requested a lower bail amount, citing that the defendant is responsible for his two young children, as well as his parents and wife.
The court granted bail at RM2,000 with one surety and set the next hearing for May 19, 2025, for the submission of documents and a full medical report.
The incident had earlier made headlines when a viral video showed a male assailant allegedly punching a female driver of a Perodua Axia in the Taipan area of Senawang.
It was reported that the confrontation arose after the man, angered by the claim that his child had been knocked down by the woman’s car while crossing the street, confronted her aggressively.
The man was arrested at the Seremban District Police Headquarters, and investigations are ongoing under Section 323 and 427 of the Penal Code. - April, 7 2025
