PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged members of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to prioritise ethical values and foster a spirit of unity in the run-up to the party’s leadership elections, scheduled to take place next month.
Anwar, who also serves as PKR President, emphasised the importance of conducting the 2025 party elections with decorum and a shared sense of purpose, warning against internal division and factionalism.
“As I have always stressed – KEADILAN is not merely a political party, but a platform for the people’s struggles. As such, choose leaders who are of integrity, trustworthy and truly represent the voice of the majority,” he wrote in a statement posted on Facebook today.
He expressed hope that the party’s ongoing efforts and aspirations would contribute to a more just and prosperous Malaysia.
“Insya-Allah, our efforts and endeavours will be facilitated for the sake of a fairer and more prosperous Malaysia for all,” Anwar added.
Wishing all candidates and members well, he encouraged those taking part in the polls to campaign responsibly and with mutual respect.
The upcoming elections will determine the new composition of the party’s Central Leadership Council (CLC), as well as the central leadership of the Women’s and Youth Wings. According to party secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh, voting for the Division-level, Women’s Division and Youth Division posts commenced today and will continue until 20 April.
The central leadership elections are set for May 24, and are expected to be closely watched, as PKR positions itself for future political challenges amid calls for renewal and consolidation within the party ranks.
With unity and integrity forming the central theme of Anwar’s message, the party leadership is clearly aiming to ensure that the internal democratic process reinforces its identity as a reform-oriented movement — one that remains rooted in principles of justice, inclusivity, and good governance. - April 11, 2025
