THE Selangor State Government is set to commence the recovery phase following the recent gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, as announced during the ninth meeting of the State Disaster Management Committee earlier today.
Selangor Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, said a dedicated investigation committee—chaired by the Selangor Chief of Police and involving the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH)—is currently reviewing the incident before submitting a full report to the state authorities.
“Moving forward, starting from Monday, only the Investigation Committee will remain actively operational, while the focus will shift to the Recovery Committee and the general Disaster Committee,” he said during a press conference held at the temporary relief centre at Putra Heights Mosque today.
“In terms of communication, the frequency of press briefings will decrease. We may hold press conferences every three to four days, rather than daily.”
Amirudin added that the meetings will include updates from the investigation committee led by the State Police Chief, along with reports from the State Secretary or, when necessary, himself or the Deputy State Secretary, to coordinate recovery efforts for those affected by the incident.
The press conference coincided with the announcement of the Putra Heights Tragedy Education Aid, an initiative aimed at supporting families impacted by the explosion.
According to Amirudin, 87 families have registered for temporary accommodation through Airbnb arrangements funded by the state, while another 16 families are still transitioning and require additional time before relocating.
“We will also be conducting door-to-door inspections at the temporary shelters to assess whether families are ready to move to designated accommodations,” he said.
“These accommodations will be provided entirely at the state government’s expense.”
He also revealed that on 14 April, which marks the first official meeting of the Recovery and Disaster Committees, a briefing session and distribution of the required documentation will take place, enabling affected families to receive state-sponsored rental support.
“We have identified all eligible recipients for financial assistance, and by this afternoon, we expect to have finalised the complete list following cross-verification,” Amirudin explained.
“Once the verification and investigations are complete, the total amount of aid to be disbursed will be confirmed and distributed accordingly.”
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting the victims in rebuilding their lives, stating that monthly rental subsidies will be provided to ensure all displaced families can live comfortably during the recovery period. - April 11, 2025
