THE Ministry of Education (MOE) has reiterated its uncompromising stance on sexual misconduct, as investigations continue into a male teacher accused of sending pornographic links to a female colleague and allegedly behaving inappropriately with students.
The case, which emerged last week, saw the suspect remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation.
According to reports, a female teacher at a secondary school in Johor Bahru alleged that the man had sent her explicit content and had also been observed acting intimately with several female students.
Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry holds firm to its strict disciplinary principles when it comes to misconduct among educators.
“We are currently conducting a thorough investigation, but as I have always emphasised, we do not compromise on any form of offence, especially sexual offences. ‘You touch, you go’ – as I often say,” she told reporters during an event in Johor on Thursday.
She added that the ministry would allow the police to complete their investigation before taking further action, but stressed that the existing guidelines and regulations will be fully upheld.
“We will investigate comprehensively, guided by the protocols and rules already in place,” she said.
Fadhlina also underlined the ministry’s commitment to ensuring all forms of inappropriate behaviour among educators are dealt with firmly and within the bounds of the law.
The teacher at the centre of the case has publicly defended himself via a Facebook post, claiming the explicit link was sent unintentionally.
The case has sparked renewed attention on teacher conduct and the safeguarding of students in schools, with the Education Ministry making it clear that any form of sexual misconduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances. - April 18, 2025
