Clearly, Izat’s enthusiasm for cleanliness doesn’t stop at their own home - April 20, 2025

A MAN’S spontaneous act of climbing onto a neighbour’s roof to clean it has amused and impressed Malaysians after CCTV footage captured his unexpected housekeeping mission.

The scene was shared on social media by his wife, Nurul Ain Farihah Mohd Zulkepli, 31, a headscarf entrepreneur from Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Initially worried when her husband failed to return promptly after dropping their children at school, she soon discovered that Mohamad Izat Al Hafiz Mustaffa, 33, was not missing—he was simply tidying up the neighbour’s rooftop.

Nurul Ain revealed that Izat has always been extremely particular about cleanliness, to the point of redoing chores she had already completed.

“If I mop the floor, he’ll mop it again. He has to do it himself until he feels it’s clean and perfect,” Sinar Harian cited her saying with a laugh.

Izat’s enthusiasm for cleanliness doesn’t stop at their own home—it extends to the homes of neighbours and relatives as well.

“Our neighbours are already used to him. If they see him cleaning around someone else’s house, they don’t mind because they know that’s just how he is,” Nurul Ain added.

Clips of Izat scrubbing surfaces and meticulously cleaning the kitchen until it gleams have since gone viral. Some netizens speculated that he might have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but Nurul Ain believes it’s simply part of his nature.

“He’s been this way since we got married. I don’t think he has OCD, he’s just naturally a very clean person. The house is always tidy, and I quite like it that way,” she explained.

Although his habits can test her patience—especially when they’re dressed and ready to leave the house but he suddenly insists on mopping the floor—Nurul Ain feels his fastidiousness brings more good than trouble.

Izat himself admitted that cleanliness gives him a sense of inner peace.

“I can tolerate clutter, but not dirt. If something’s dirty, I just can’t sit still. I’ll clean it straight away, even if it’s not my house,” he said.

For Izat, it’s not about recognition or praise—it’s about achieving a satisfying sense of order.

“That calm feeling, that’s what I’m after,” he said simply, yet with deep conviction. - April 20, 2025
