AN 18-YEAR-OLD male has pleaded not guilty at a Sessions Court today to charges of raping a child at a mosque lavatory in Kampung Enggang last year.

The accused, aged 18, denied the charge read before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.

According to the prosecution, the teenager raped a girl aged 10 years and 10 months at the time of the alleged incident in a mosque toilet in Kampung Enggang near Kota Bharu, Kelantan at approximately 1:30pm on November 21st last year.

The accused is charged under Section 376(2)(e) of the Penal Code, which carries a minimum sentence of 10 to 30 years imprisonment and caning.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli, while the accused was represented by Muhammad Khairul Azwan Azhan.

Earlier in the proceedings, Kamarul Hasyime did not offer any bail, citing the seriousness of the case and the young age of the victim, who was just 10 years old.

However, Muhamamd Khairul Azwan requested that bail be granted, arguing that remand detention was unsuitable for his client, who is still a teenager.

The court subsequently granted bail of RM8,000 with the condition that the accused is not to interfere with the victim.

The court has also set the next hearing date for May 21st. - April 20, 2025
