IN highlighting an initiative’s role in empowering local entrepreneurs and enhancing digital literacy, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil officiated the “Hari Bersama Komuniti” (HBK) programme today at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) Sim Sim in Sandakan, Sabah.

Organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under its Smart Services Programme, the HBK event aims to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and support national digital agenda efforts, while addressing both digital and social divides in the community.

Activities held throughout the day included the Safe Internet Campaign, exhibitions showcasing NADI Smart Services, product promotions by local entrepreneurs, the MADANI Agro Sales by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), free health screenings, Micro:bit workshops, e-sports competitions, and new member registrations for NADI.

The Safe Internet Campaign focused particularly on children under 13, educating them about ethical internet usage and raising awareness of cyber threats such as online bullying, exploitation and exposure to inappropriate content, MCMC said in statement today.

Since opening its doors on October 22, 2019, NADI Sim Sim has played a vital role in empowering the local community through five core service pillars: Entrepreneurship, Lifelong Learning, Personal Wellbeing, Awareness and Government Initiatives.

The centre has become a platform for many small-scale entrepreneurs to expand their businesses. With the support of digital tools and training, some have progressed to selling products online via platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and Shopee.

Under its NADIPreneur initiative, NADI’s entrepreneurship-focused services offer opportunities for local business owners to grow through support in business planning, operations, financial management and marketing.

NADI Sim Sim is one of eight active NADI centres in the Sandakan district, alongside facilities in Pekan Batu Sapi, PPR Taman Mesra, Taman Mawar, PPR Taman Murni, Kg Sungai Kayu, Sebait Padas and PPR Taman Gum Gum, collectively serving more than 12,000 people in surrounding communities.

Also present at the event were Sandakan MP YB Vivian Wong Shir Yee, Tanjung Papat state assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, Ministry of Communications Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, MCMC Commissioner General (Rtd) Tan Sri Dato' Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, and MCMC’s Chief of State Affairs Tuan Haji Bukhari Yahya. - April 27, 2025
