THE body of an 82-year-old woman was discovered in a drain outside her home at Kampung Tunku, Jalan Astana Petra Jaya, in Kuching last Friday.

Kuching District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Alexson Naga Anak Chabu, confirmed the discovery in a statement on Sunday.

“The police received a call from a member of the public reporting a death in a drain in the area at 5.41 pm.

“Acting on the information, a team from Gita Police Station rushed to the scene and found a local woman. Medical personnel at the scene confirmed that she had passed away,” he said.

The woman’s body has been referred to the Forensic Department at Sarawak General Hospital for further examination.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact Gita Police Station Chief, Assistant Superintendent Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Ali, at 019-5131156 or call Gita Police Station at 082-254417.

“The public may also go directly to the nearest police station to provide any relevant information,” Alexson added.

He also advised the public not to speculate about the case out of respect for the victim’s family.

Earlier, a social media post claimed the woman had drowned in a drain in front of her house. The post also alleged she had been a frequent victim of her son’s anger and urged authorities to investigate and take appropriate action. - April 28, 2025
