POLICE have identified the driver captured on video making an obscene gesture while driving on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) at Kilometre 159, near Nibong Tebal, following the clip’s circulation on social media earlier this week.

Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou said a report was lodged on Monday concerning the 21-second video, which shows a man making the gesture while driving in the right-hand lane.

Initial investigations found that the Proton Persona featured in the video is registered to a local man with an address in Selangor. The individual believed to be involved has been identified and further investigations are ongoing,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for gestures intended to insult modesty, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.

The video had sparked widespread criticism from netizens after it showed the driver, who appeared agitated, making an obscene hand signal while occupying the fast lane. - May 2, 2025
