THE Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) detained 64 undocumented migrants during raids on a food court in Jalan Klang Lama and a massage parlour in Bukit Bintang late on Monday night.
Deputy Director-General of Immigration (Operations) Jafri Embok Taha said the group included 25 women aged between 18 and 60, comprising nationals from Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
“All those detained are suspected of committing various offences under the Immigration Act, such as not possessing valid travel documents, overstaying, and misusing their passes,” he said during a press briefing at the site of the operation.
He added that the individuals would be transferred to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation.
During the raid, two immigration officers sustained minor injuries while apprehending a 42-year-old Indonesian woman who attempted to flee. The woman, who worked as a masseuse without a valid work permit, admitted that she panicked upon seeing enforcement officers and tried to escape.
Both officers received minor injuries to their hands and knees but did not require hospitalisation.
Jafri urged employers, particularly Malaysian citizens, to ensure that all foreign workers under their employment have valid documents and legal work status.
“We will continue taking strict action, and our main focus is on employers, especially Malaysians who harbour and hire undocumented foreign workers,” he said.
The raids, carried out by 55 officers from JIM Kuala Lumpur, followed two weeks of intelligence gathering.
The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. - May 6, 2025
