Green Energy and Technology ties to be strengthen between Malaysia and Japan - Fadillah
The collaboration outlines investment opportunities valued between RM435 billion and RM1.85 trillion by 2050 - May 6, 2025

MALAYSIA and Japan are set to deepen cooperation in green energy and technology development, with both nations aiming to support a more sustainable and low-carbon future, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said today.

Fadillah, who also serves as Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, made the statement following a meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who was in Putrajaya as a special envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister.

He said the collaboration is in line with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which outlines investment opportunities valued between RM435 billion and RM1.85 trillion by 2050. The plan also aims to foster joint ventures that deliver both environmental and economic benefits.

"This includes AZEC's role in strengthening bilateral, regional, and global cooperation," Fadillah said in a Facebook post.

The Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), spearheaded by Kishida, is a regional platform focused on promoting carbon neutrality and facilitating the energy transition towards zero-emission goals.

In addition to Malaysia and Japan, AZEC includes member countries such as Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. - May 6, 2025
