Trader claims trial to dangerous driving charge in fatal Senawang crash
The accused denies he had driven his van recklessly and caused the death of Muhammad Annas Iskandar Mohd Khairi at the traffic lights at Persiaran Senawang 1 - May 7, 2025

A 45-year-old trader pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to a charge of dangerous driving that led to the death of a motorcyclist in a crash at Matahari Heights earlier this month.

P. Mohan entered the plea before Magistrate Nurul Farha Sulaiman, denying that he had driven his van recklessly and caused the death of Muhammad Annas Iskandar Mohd Khairi, 21, at the traffic lights at Persiaran Senawang 1, Matahari Heights, at 11.59 pm on May 3.

The charge is framed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, and a minimum five-year driving ban upon conviction.

The court allowed Mohan bail of RM7,000 with one surety and suspended his driving licence pending the outcome of the case. The matter was fixed for mention on July 3 for submission of documents, including reports from Puspakom, forensics, and the chemist.

Defence counsel Rajindar Singh requested a lower bail, citing his client’s limited income of RM3,000 to RM3,500 a month. He added that Mohan is self-employed, while his wife sells flowers, and the couple are supporting two children, aged 21 and 22, who are still studying.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal appeared for the prosecution. - May 7, 2025
