THE nation reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable innovation in underground infrastructure with the official launch of Trenchless Asia 2025, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) today.
The event underscores Malaysia’s dedication to sustainable development, particularly in the water, sewerage, and utilities sectors.
By adopting trenchless technologies, significant benefits can be achieved—such as reduced disruption to traffic, surrounding communities, and ecosystems—thanks to the minimal need for surface excavation in urban areas.
“This technology also helps conserve space and reduces the risk of damage to existing infrastructure, directly contributing to public well-being,” said Fadillah said during the launch.
Among the key innovations showcased at Trenchless Asia 2025 are Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), micro tunnelling, and pipe rehabilitation techniques such as Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP).
These modern approaches offer efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solutions for the construction and maintenance of underground infrastructure, all while minimising prolonged disruption to public amenities in urban zones.
“This conference provides a vital platform for professionals in underground technology to convene, exchange knowledge and experiences, and address the challenges in trenchless technology,” he added.
This year's event marks the fourth time Malaysia has hosted the conference, and it sees the active participation of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) as a major exhibitor alongside over 100 other international participants.
Held from May 7 to 8, Trenchless Asia is a premier international exhibition and conference focused on trenchless technology in the Asian region.
The two-day conference also features technical sessions, panel discussions, and industry networking opportunities, drawing participation from government agencies, local authorities, utility providers, private companies, and academic institutions. The event aims to drive forward the future direction of underground infrastructure development at both regional and global levels.
“This conference reflects Malaysia’s commitment to innovative development, a key pillar of the Malaysia MADANI framework, as the nation strengthens its position as a progressive and competitive player in the field of technology,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. - May 8, 2025
