THE Sarawak Customs Department seized 10.1 kgs of methamphetamine disguised as snack food at the Kuching International Airport.

“Operations were carried out on April 16, Sarawak Customs Department director Norizan Yahya (pic) said today, adding  a local man had been arrested in connection with the case.

"The suspect had arrived at the airport from Kuala Lumpur. He had taken a box from the luggage line and was seen heading into the toilet. Enforcement officers cornered him and a search found the drugs hidden among snack food," he said in a statement.

Norizan Yahya said the seized drugs are worth about RM347,200 and was the second major drug haul in Sarawak in the past month.

On Apr 29, the State Customs Department uncovered 4.08 kg of drugs from a courier company here in Miri city. The drugs were found in two packages labelled as tea bags, he added.

They were sent via courier from peninsula Malaysia to an unoccupied address in Miri, he said.

Drug trafficking investigations are ongoing and the culprits behind the case are being tracked.

The Miri drug seizure carried an estimated street value of RM 130,560, he said, adding, Miri is a known drug hotspot.

On Apr 2, the police seized about 30kgs worth of drugs in a swoop in Miri city where a local man in his 20s had been arrested in a raid which took place in a housing area by police.
