HAFIZUL Hawari, the 39-year-old travel agency manager, has applied for plea bargaining in his ongoing trial at the Sessions Court.
He faces charges of attempting to murder his ex-wife and injuring her bodyguard at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in April last year.
Bernama cited Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin informing the court of the application on the first day of the trial, before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman.
“Today was supposed to be set for trial, but the prosecution was informed by the accused’s lawyer to enter a plea bargain. The prosecution will have to examine this first,” she said, requesting the court set a new date for the decision on the plea bargain. Judge Ahmad Fuad set the hearing for July 17.
Plea bargaining is a process where the accused negotiates a guilty plea with the prosecution, offering a resolution without going through a full trial.
Hafizul has pleaded not guilty to the charges stemming from an incident at KLIA on April 14, 2024. He is accused of attempting to murder his ex-wife, Farah Md Isa, 39, at the International Arrivals Hall. He is also facing a charge of causing grievous harm to Farah's bodyguard, Mohd Nur Hadith Zaini, 39, using a firearm.
The attempted murder charge, under Section 307 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine, or up to 20 years if the victim is injured. The charge for causing grievous harm, under Section 326, can result in up to 20 years in prison, a fine, or whipping, if convicted. - May 19, 2025
