PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received separate telephone calls from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in conjunction with the Eid al-Adha celebrations, during which the leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Palestinian people and called for deeper Muslim solidarity in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In his conversation with President Erdoğan, Anwar extended his appreciation for Turkey’s consistent voice and firm stance in defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
"I express my appreciation to him for her consistent voice and firm stand in championing the voices of the oppressed Palestinians.
“We agree that while the world still chooses to mute and be selective towards the suffering of the people of Gaza, we cannot hug each other, Malaysia certainly welcomes and fully supports President Erdoğan's stand to use all the means and capabilities available to defend the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people," he said.
Anwar also reflected on Erdoğan's recent official visit to Malaysia, describing it as one of the most meaningful and successful diplomatic engagements in the nation's history.
"We further talk about his recent official visit to Malaysia that not only unpacked, but also strengthened the foundations of the long-established bilateral relationship.
“It was one of the most successful and meaningful visits in the country’s diplomatic history—not just an exchange of protocols—but also intertwined with substantial negotiations that touched on common importance. I see the visit as a manifestation of the consistent values and direction of both countries in promoting justice, sovereignty and development of the universal people."
He reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment to working closely with Turkey in fostering a strategic alliance to project the voices of oppressed communities globally.
"Malaysia is determined to continue working closely with Turkey, especially in forming a strategic alliance capable of bringing the voices of the people to the center stage of the world. In the spirit of Aidiladha—sacrifice, steadfastness and faith in the divine call—Malaysia will continue to stand with Turkey in enabling a safer, just world and upheld the values of humanity," Anwar stated.
In a separate conversation, Anwar and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed similar sentiments, expressing concern over the ongoing atrocities in Gaza and urging unified Muslim action in pursuit of peace and justice.
According to Bernama-IRNA, Anwar praised Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and condemned the actions of the Israeli regime.
He said, "Malaysia would spare no effort in supporting initiatives to end the violence in Gaza and to restore peace and security to its people," reaffirming Kuala Lumpur’s commitment to championing the rights of the oppressed on the international stage.
President Pezeshkian highlighted the significance of Eid al-Adha as a moment to deepen unity among Muslim nations.
He noted, "The shared responsibility of Muslim governments is to stand up for the oppressed across the Islamic world," and urged for stronger representation of the Palestinian plight in international fora, describing the situation in Gaza as "one of the most brutal humanitarian crises in contemporary history."
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and advancing cooperation for the benefit of the global Muslim ummah. - June 6, 2025
