FORMER television personality Norjuma Habib Mohamed was fined RM4,800 by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court for committing mischief by damaging a car park barrier and closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera at a condominium in Taman U-Thant, Kuala Lumpur two years ago.

Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan handed down the sentence after Norjuma, 45, changed her plea to guilty when the charges were read out again against her.

"Understand (the charge), plead (guilty)," she said.

The court also ordered her to serve five months in jail if she fails to pay the fine.

According to the first and second charges, the businesswoman is charged with committing mischief by damaging the vehicle's exit and entry barriers and CCTV belonging to a condominium in Taman U-Thant, at 7.44 and 7.45 pm on July 28, 2023, causing damages worth RM4,700.

The charge was made under Section 427 of the Penal Code which provides for a minimum prison sentence of one year and a maximum of five years or a fine or both, if convicted.

Earlier, lawyer Faiz Kamal Jaafar, representing Norjuma, requested that his client be fined on the grounds that she was unemployed and regretted her actions.

"My client is still continuing her studies at a local university and is being fully supported by her father, who is also a government pensioner.

"My client can now only afford to pay a fine of around RM1,000 for the two charges," he said.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa requested a sentence that was proportionate to the loss and crime of damaging the condominium property.

On May 19, Norjuma was also fined RM1,000 by the Magistrate's Court on charges of scratching and slapping a woman.
