THE National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day 2025 opened to a rousing start, attracting 41,830 visitors on its first day alone, sparking confidence that the event’s 150,000-visitor target is well within reach.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who also chairs the National TVET Council, said the turnout signals growing enthusiasm among students and the public for careers in the technical and vocational fields.
“We hope to see even more visitors in the coming days. We encourage everyone – especially students and those interested in technical careers – to attend and discover the vast potential of TVET in shaping the future,” he told reporters during a walkabout at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh.
The three-day event, hosted in Melaka for the first time under the theme “TVET: The Preferred Career Choice”, features over 50 exhibition booths and is expected to be officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
One of the key highlights will be the launch of the High-Impact TVET Programme Initiatives focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity – two fields identified as critical to Malaysia’s future workforce needs.
Across the weekend, visitors can take part in a series of seminars, workshops and competitions centred on innovation, technology and technical skills.
Twelve ministries are jointly organising this year’s celebration, including the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Human Resources, and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry.
This year’s National TVET Day also marks a strengthened collaboration among four key pillars of the sector: industry players, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, and both federal and state government agencies. - June 12, 2025
