A POLICE officer with the rank of inspector has been arrested on suspicion of committing rape and soliciting bribes and sexual favours in two separate incidents recently.

The 29-year-old suspect, who is single and works in the Criminal Investigation Division, was arrested after two victims filed reports with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sungai Petani Branch and the Sungai Petani police on July 3 and 4.

Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan confirmed the arrest and informed that in the first incident, the suspect is alleged of accepting a bribe of RM2,000 from a man to release a drug suspect.

“A friend of the drug suspect gave money to the inspector in his office before the police officer also asked for sex, which made the suspect unhappy and she filed a report with the MACC at 11.30pm, July 3.

“Half an hour later, we received another complaint regarding a rape case involving the inspector from a woman in her 30s, causing us to detain the officer for further investigation,” he said as reported by Kosmo!

According to him, the woman was involved in a robbery case and complained that the rape incident occurred at her home in a flat here at about 2am, April 20.

“The inspector went to the woman’s house dressed in full police uniform, supposedly to help solve the robbery case she was facing.

“The arrival of the police officer caused the woman to feel scared and while inside her house, the police officer allegedly raped her,” he said.

The police officer was remanded for three days under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code before being extended for another four days starting today at the request of the MACC to assist in the investigation under Section 16 of the MACC Act. – July 6, 2025
