Johari Abdul Ghani to assume duties of NRES Minister with immediate effect
Ministerial post vacated by Nik Nazmi after him resigning effective July 4 - July 11, 2025

PLANTATION and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani will immediately take on the responsibilities and functions of Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), following the resignation of Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

In a brief statement, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim informed the Cabinet during its meeting on Wednesday that he had agreed for Johari to assume the role.

“Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani will carry out the duties and functions of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, effective immediately,” the statement read.

Nik Nazmi announced on 28 May that he had submitted his resignation letter to the Prime Minister, effective 4 July. His resignation came just hours after Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli also announced his departure from the Cabinet, which took effect on 17 June. - July 11, 2025
