PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held high-level talks on Monday with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Dr Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, underscoring the Federal Government’s commitment to closer cooperation with the Bornean states.
The meeting, which took place at Perdana Putra, focused on strengthening federal-state collaboration as a cornerstone for advancing Malaysia’s national development agenda, with particular emphasis on inclusivity and regional balance.
“I have always emphasised the importance of strong ties and strategic cooperation between the Federal Government and the state governments, especially Sabah and Sarawak,” Anwar said in a statement released via his official Facebook page.
“This will help realise a national agenda that is inclusive and balanced, for the shared progress of all Malaysians,” he added.
Among the matters discussed were areas of shared concern between Putrajaya and the East Malaysian administrations, reflecting the government’s ongoing engagement with regional stakeholders. During the meeting, Hajiji presented Anwar with the Sabah Maju Jaya 2024 Annual Progress Report.
The discussions coincided with the 146th Conference of Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers, which Anwar chaired at the Prime Minister’s Office.

“This meeting is an important platform for strengthening cooperation between the Federal and State Governments, particularly in coordinating policies and development initiatives collectively,” Anwar remarked.
“Through this synergy, we can ensure the smooth, comprehensive and inclusive implementation of the national development agenda, for the wellbeing of the people and the overall progress of Malaysia,” he added. - July 14, 2025
