A 21-YEAR-OLD foreign national who allegedly slashed his former girlfriend’s neck at a private university in Subang Jaya has been remanded for four days, until 18 July, as police continue investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
Subang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said early investigations suggest the motive was personal.
“The suspect was believed to be dissatisfied with the victim, claiming she had falsely accused him of preventing her from leaving the house,” he said in a brief statement on Tuesday.
The victim, a 20-year-old female foreign student, remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM).
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon, when the suspect allegedly attacked the woman with a knife on campus grounds. The assault left her with serious injuries to her neck.
Following a tip-off from the public, officers swiftly arrested the suspect shortly after the attack.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or whipping, or any combination thereof.
“The number of witnesses involved is still being determined as investigations progress,” said Wan Azlan.
Members of the public with further information are urged to come forward or contact the nearest police station.
