TWO more companies have been identified in connection with bribery allegations involving a RM180 million data centre construction tender in Johor, bringing further developments in the widening investigation led by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Sources revealed that several individuals holding directorial positions within the implicated firms have been identified and are expected to be summoned to assist with ongoing investigations.
“The main suspect admitted to demanding three per cent of the project value from companies interested in securing the tender,” a source familiar with the probe disclosed on Sunday.
It is understood that in return for the illicit payments, the project manager allegedly leaked confidential tender pricing information to ensure the success of favoured bidders.
“Payments were made in stages, aligned with project disbursements. Several million ringgit remain outstanding, as per the agreed arrangement between the parties,” the source added.
The scandal erupted following a dramatic MACC raid under Op Ways last Thursday, during which the suspect attempted to destroy evidence by setting fire to nearly RM1 million in cash. Authorities, however, managed to recover approximately RM7.5 million hidden in pillow boxes during the operation.
Also seized were three luxury watches—Rolex, Omega, and Cartier—along with several gold rings and coins.
On Friday, the project manager, his wife, and two company directors were formally detained to assist investigations into alleged bribery tied to the data centre project procurement. - July 20, 2025
