THE government's short- and long-term strategies for addressing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are set to feature prominently in today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting, according to the Order Paper published on the Parliament’s official website.
During Minister’s Question Time, Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH–Hulu Langat) is scheduled to raise the issue with the Prime Minister, seeking clarity on Malaysia’s approach to the escalating situation in the region.
Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN–Beluran) will also pose a question to the Prime Minister concerning the 2002 International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling on the sovereignty of Ligitan and Sipadan islands. He is expected to ask how the decision might influence maritime boundary determinations between Malaysia and Indonesia in the Sulawesi Sea, particularly regarding the sovereignty of Blocks ND6 (Block Y) and ND7 (Block Z).
Elsewhere in the Question for Oral Answers session, Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN–Bachok) is to request details from the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry on the government's response to the United States' tariff policy and the role of state governments in that regard.
Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN–Pekan) will question the Agriculture and Food Security Minister on the savings achieved from reduced subsidy expenditure and the resultant impact on the egg market.
Following the question session, the Dewan Rakyat is scheduled to proceed with the first reading of the Poisons (Amendment) Bill 2025, and the second readings of the Street, Drainage and Building (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Whistleblower Protection (Amendment) Bill 2025.
The current meeting of the Dewan Rakyat, the Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament, will span 24 days, culminating in the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan on 31 July. - July 22, 2025
