THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed it will launch investigations into possible misconduct and weaknesses in governance within government agencies and government-linked companies (GLCs), as highlighted in the Auditor-General’s Report Series 2/2025 recently presented in Parliament.
In a statement, the commission said it would liaise closely with the National Audit Department (JAN) to obtain relevant information and supporting documents for immediate follow-up action.
“MACC fully supports the disclosures made by the Auditor-General and will conduct a comprehensive review of the report,” it said.
“This includes taking further action on any matters suspected of involving criminal offences under the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694), and not solely limiting investigations to governance issues.”
The commission reiterated its commitment to addressing any allegations of abuse of power, misappropriation, and corruption in a firm and transparent manner, stating that such efforts are crucial to restoring public confidence in the integrity of public institutions.
Earlier media reports noted that the Auditor-General’s findings had revealed significant shortcomings in the execution of government projects and fund management.
The report cited weaknesses such as inadequate oversight, lack of coordination between agencies, incomplete databases, and deficiencies in policy or operational procedures.
As a result, several government programmes, activities and projects experienced delays, poor-quality outcomes, rising costs, and ultimately failed to deliver value for money. - July 24, 2025
