A HUSBAND and wife were found burned beyond recognition in the bathroom of their home following a fire in Kampung Sangkir early Thursday morning.

The incident, which occurred around 2.30am, destroyed the permanent-structure home entirely, along with a Proton Saga parked on the property.

Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Elgi Bakuk said his team received a distress call at 2.52am and dispatched 12 personnel to the scene, approximately 12.2 kilometres from the station.

“The fire involved a fully destroyed permanent house along with a vehicle. During our inspection, we discovered two victims burned in the bathroom,” he said in a statement.

Firefighting operations concluded at 4.55am after the area was deemed safe.

In a separate incident the same morning, firefighters took nearly four hours to contain a blaze at a plastic automotive components factory in Taman Putra Budiman, Seri Kembangan.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said they received an emergency call at 3.02am.

“Three fire engines and an ambulance were dispatched from Bandar Tun Hussein Onn station, with support from Seri Kembangan, Kajang, and Pandan Indah,” he said.

The fire damaged approximately 60 per cent of the facility. Sixteen personnel were involved in extinguishing the flames, which were fully put out by 6.50am.

“Checks confirmed no casualties were involved,” Ahmad Mukhlis said, adding that the operation officially ended at 7am.

The cause of the fire and estimated losses remain under investigation. - July 24, 2025
