THE Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) has identified 5,800 taxpayers who failed to submit their Income Tax Return Forms (BNCP), following targeted compliance monitoring via its e-Invoicing system.
In a statement issued today, IRB said that after enforcement action was initiated against high-risk individuals, all flagged taxpayers eventually submitted their returns, declaring a total of RM484 million in income. This led to the recovery of an additional RM82 million in tax revenue.
“Since the launch of e-Invoicing on 1 August last year, IRB has received data from individuals and businesses engaged in transactions, and has actively verified this information through the MyInvois system,” it said.
The e-Invoicing initiative forms part of IRB’s ongoing efforts to ensure voluntary and consistent compliance, in line with the principles of equity and transparency in Malaysia’s tax system.
“To date, IRB has processed approximately 413 million e-Invoices, involving more than 83,000 taxpayers. This includes both mandatory filers from phases one to three, and voluntary participants from phases four and five,” the board added.
While welcoming the positive response, IRB stressed that taxpayers whose implementation deadlines have passed must now ensure full compliance.
Taxpayers are reminded to maintain accurate and up-to-date records to avoid enforcement action.
