A MARRIED couple has been remanded for seven days following the death of their seven-month-old adopted daughter at a condominium in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras.

Acting Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, confirmed that the 38-year-old man and his 50-year-old wife will be held in custody until 6 August to assist with ongoing investigations.

“The biological mother of the infant is an Indonesian national,” he said in a statement. “The baby had been staying with the couple since 18 June after being handed over by her mother, who subsequently returned to Indonesia.”

He added that the post-mortem findings have not yet been released.

According to reports, the baby girl was found unconscious with visible bruising and a bluish complexion in the living room of the family’s condominium unit late last night.

Datuk Mohamed Usuf confirmed that police received an emergency call at 9:34pm from a man claiming his adopted daughter had become unresponsive at their home under unexplained circumstances.

“Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the baby in the living room, with her body exhibiting signs of bruising and cyanosis,” he said. “Both the man and his wife were subsequently arrested to assist in the investigation.”

The case is being closely monitored, with authorities awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. - July 31, 2025
