A WOMAN accused of posing as a loan shark to harass her former lover’s family over a debt has denied the allegation, claiming instead that she was once his mistress and is simply seeking repayment for a RM100,000 personal loan.
Identified only as Hong, the woman told China Press that she had lent the money to Wong—whom she was in a relationship with—on several occasions under various pretexts.
According to her, the funds were transferred directly into Wong’s bank account.
“I am not a loan shark. I was his mistress. Maybe my debt collection methods were a bit aggressive and the amount I asked for kept changing, so his family thought I’m a loan shark,” Hong said.
She said she ended the relationship after discovering that Wong was a married man. It was then that she began efforts to recover the money, insisting she has evidence to support her claim of having issued the loans.
Wong’s family had earlier claimed they were being harassed by an unidentified individual demanding repayment of a debt. They alleged that posters about Wong’s debts were circulated online, but Hong has denied involvement in any such public shaming.
She also said that Wong himself had previously taken loans from actual loan sharks, and that his family had settled most of those debts. The family even went so far as to publish a newspaper notice publicly severing ties with him.
The dispute reached a turning point when Datuk Seri Michael Chong, head of the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department, brokered a meeting between Hong and Wong’s family. During the session, Chong urged Wong to come forward to resolve the matter and take responsibility. - August 8, 2025
