DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has arrived in Singapore to attend the republic’s National Day Parade 2025, where he is representing the Malaysian government at the official invitation of the Singaporean government.

His arrival was warmly received by Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, and High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Menon.

Aside from participating in the parade, Zahid is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, and hold bilateral discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong.

“These discussions will focus on bilateral cooperation and matters of mutual interest to strengthen existing ties,” he said in an official statement.

Zahid emphasised the significance of this visit, which comes as Malaysia and Singapore mark 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2025.

“As closest neighbours and key trading partners in ASEAN, Singapore continues to be a strategic ally for Malaysia, with total trade reaching RM396.22 billion in 2024 and increasing a further 12.2% in the first quarter of this year,” he said.

“Insya-Allah, I believe this visit will continue to strengthen the long-standing friendship and open more avenues for cooperation that benefit both our nations and peoples.” - August 9, 2025
