POLICE believe the alleged mastermind behind an investment scam that caused losses of RM2.3 million is still hiding within Malaysia, with efforts to locate him currently underway.

Director of Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, confirmed that investigations suggest the suspect has not fled the country.

Yesterday, Harian Metro reported that police are actively searching for the man, who is being sought to assist in an ongoing investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code, relating to cheating.

“The suspect, who was previously residing in Rawang, Selangor, is being traced in connection with the case,” said Rusdi.

According to the CCID, a total of 279 police reports have been lodged since 2023 involving the same investment scheme, allegedly operated under the guise of a legitimate company.

“Based on investigations, victims were drawn in after attending webinars hosted by the company. The scheme promised dividend returns of up to 18 percent or 1.5 percent per month to investors,” he explained.

“Initially, investors received the promised returns, but later faced a range of excuses and ultimately stopped receiving any payments.”

The police are urging anyone with information to contact Assistant Superintendent Mohd Fikri Najib Ismail at 013-983 9854 or Inspector Noor Azamin Noor Azahari at 011-6558 0848. - August 9, 2025
