A FORMER personal assistant to a Member of Parliament has been arrested in connection with a Facebook post allegedly featuring a video uploaded without consent, and accompanied by what police described as malicious commentary.
Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the MP filed a report after discovering the video, which was posted from a Facebook account on 30 July at around 12.30pm.
“The video belonged to the complainant and was uploaded without their knowledge or permission. The post explicitly named the complainant and included defamatory elements that exposed them to potential harm or open threats,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Azam added that the post prompted a wave of hostile comments from other users, inflicting mental and psychological distress on the complainant and affecting their public reputation.
“The complainant expressed fear and concern that the incident could escalate into something worse,” he said, noting that the suspect had previously worked as the MP’s personal aide.
Following the report, police arrested a 43-year-old man in Pasir Mas, Kelantan at 11.30am on 8 August. Two mobile phones were seized for further examination.
Checks revealed that the suspect has one prior criminal record, though he tested negative for drugs in a preliminary urine screening.
He has been remanded for four days, beginning last Saturday, by an Ampang Magistrate.
The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code (criminal intimidation via anonymous communication), Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 (insulting behaviour), and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (improper use of network facilities). - August 11, 2025
