EFFORTS to address bullying in public and private institutions of higher learning, as well as the status of Ombudsman Malaysia, are among the main issues set to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to the Order Paper published on Parliament’s official website, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (PN-Alor Setar) is scheduled to ask the Minister of Higher Education to outline the measures in place to curb such behaviour.
During the same Minister’s Question Time, Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) is expected to seek clarification from the Prime Minister on the outcome of the government's comprehensive engagement sessions with stakeholders regarding the formation of Ombudsman Malaysia, and to explain the planned steps to expedite its implementation.
Healthcare costs will also come under scrutiny, with Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) set to raise concerns over high treatment charges at private hospitals in a question to the Minister of Health. He will also inquire about the government’s five-year plan to introduce a Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) system as a way to standardise healthcare cost structures, and whether there are any intentions to establish a patient tribunal for grievances.
On occupational safety, Rushdan Rusmi (PN-Padang Besar) will ask the Minister of Human Resources whether there are proposals to create occupational safety and health (OSH) coordinator posts within the public sector, in line with the improved OSH Act amended in 2022.
Following the question-and-answer session, parliamentary proceedings will continue with the ongoing debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), which began on Monday and has so far seen participation from 78 Members of Parliament.
RMK13, themed “Reshaping Development”, was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 31 July, with a proposed government investment of RM611 billion aimed at driving national development from 2026 to 2030.
This parliamentary sitting is scheduled to run for 24 days, concluding on 28 August. - August 12, 2025
