COMMUNICATIONS Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has issued a strong condemnation of the recent attack on the child of former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, urging swift action and a thorough police investigation into the incident.
“This kind of act is completely unacceptable,” Fahmi said, adding that he hoped the assailants would be identified and brought to justice promptly.
Speaking to the press, he stated: “I understand that the police are conducting investigations to determine what truly transpired, and it may be premature for me to comment further at this stage.
“This morning, the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, informed party leadership within PKR that several measures would be implemented,” he added.
Fahmi confirmed that as of the previous evening, there were developments in the case, although he had yet to receive updates that morning.
He also noted that Saifuddin had assured increased security measures for Rafizi and his family.
When asked whether the attack might have been politically motivated, Fahmi declined to speculate, emphasising that police investigations were ongoing.
However, he stressed that such intimidation tactics would not silence Rafizi.
“This attack will not break his spirit nor will it deter him from continuing to speak out,” he said.
Kampung Kerinchi Landmark Celebrates Local Heritage
In a separate event, Fahmi officiated the unveiling of a new landmark in Kampung Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur — a symbol of ongoing efforts to preserve and honour the area’s historical and cultural identity.
The initiative, he said, was made possible through collaboration between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Waris Kerinchi Association, and the Tiga Luha Welfare Association.
“This is not only a tribute to the area’s history but also part of a long-term vision to strengthen Kampung Kerinchi’s identity through structured development, gazettement, and dedicated local programmes,” said Fahmi.
He shared plans to install at least one more gateway landmark into the neighbourhood and to resume discussions with DBKL regarding official recognition of Kampung Kerinchi’s boundaries — a process delayed by the pandemic.
Fahmi also proposed that in future affordable housing projects, such as Residensi Wilayah or Residensi Madani, preference be given to local residents.
“I have requested a policy that ensures 50 to 60 percent of housing units go to young people from this area,” he said.
He explained that while many members of the Waris Kerinchi Association now live outside the area, efforts should be made to ensure the next generation can return and settle in their ancestral neighbourhood.
Earlier initiatives, including collaborations with private firms such as Touch ‘n Go Digital, have helped expose local youth to industry through internship opportunities and open days.
“The goal is not only for residents to remain physically present in this community, but also to gain access to the economic opportunities offered by major companies based in Kampung Kerinchi,” he said. - August 14, 2025
