DEPUTY Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, has issued a firm warning that no police personnel will be shielded from action if found involved in corruption, regardless of rank or position.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Makan Suap’ anti-corruption poetry anthology by the National Poets’ Association (PEMUISI) at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka on Friday night, Ayob Khan said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is committed to eradicating graft within its ranks, even at the highest levels.
“We will take firm action. There will be no compromise. If found involved in corruption, action will be taken – full stop,” he said. “We’ve seen many officers arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and many more apprehended internally by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).”
He acknowledged that while the majority of officers serve with dedication and integrity, a small number remain entangled in corrupt practices, which he described as tarnishing the image of the entire force.
“These few must be dealt with decisively,” he added.
Recalling his previous roles as Johor Police Chief, Director of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN), and Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) at Bukit Aman, Ayob said numerous officers had been disciplined or prosecuted.
“When I was in Johor, action was taken against both officers and rank-and-file under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA). In the JSJN, several officers, including those holding the rank of Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and Inspector, were detained under preventive measures,” he revealed.
He stressed that PDRM would not “sweep offences under the carpet,” warning that such inaction only worsens the situation and perpetuates a culture of impunity.
“There may be a minority within and outside the force who claim corruption in the police cannot be eradicated. But I remain committed to this fight. We will press on – with principle and integrity,” he said.
Ayob Khan commended PEMUISI’s contribution to the anti-corruption agenda through its literary efforts, noting that poetry can play a powerful role in societal reform. The *Makan Suap* anthology features work from 137 emerging and established poets across Malaysia, including National Laureate Datuk Dr Anwar Ridhwan, who also chairs the DBP Board of Governors.
He said the publication aligns with the values of the MADANI government and its declaration of corruption as the nation's number one enemy.
